How to become a member

Lex Societas is open to all high school students (9-12) across the world who have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to and passion for the law and the values of justice and truth. Lex Societas accepts individual student members, however, we highly encourage students to either start a chapter or join an existing chapter in order to have access to a myriad of opportunities (CHECK OUT PROJECTS PAGE FOR CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES). Membership is required to start/join a chapter.

Membership Qualifications

The only set qualification we have is that all applicants must be enrolled in an accredited high school in any country. There are no costs to be paid by applicants, and Lex Societas accepts applications from all high school students.

How to start a chapter

Lex Societas welcomes all members to start a chapter in their school or local community. Below are the following steps/considerations when it comes to starting a chapter:

  • School Chapter vs. Local Community Chapter

    • School Chapter:

      • A school chapter is a chapter started by a Lex Societas member in their school. Members seeking to start a chapter in their school must approve the chapter with their school's administration as an extracurricular activity before they move forward with their application. Depending on their school, this process may vary. Members must also have a Teacher Advisor who will serve as the chapter's mentor and help in guiding students.

    • Local Community Chapter:

      • A local community chapter is a chapter started by a Lex Societas member in their town, county, or city. If a member chooses to establish a local community chapter, it must be at one of these levels. Chapters may not go beyond the city level (ie. Lex Societas @ New York City is acceptable, but Lex Societas @ New York State is not acceptable). One does not need a Teacher Advisor for a local community chapter, but it is strongly advised to have one for help with logistical issues and difficulties when it comes to planning events.

  • Chapter Application:

    • All members interested in applying for a chapter in their school or local community must fill out the Chapter Application. Should your chapter proposal be accepted by the National Board, you will receive onboarding materials including a guide for establishing the chapter, with info about writing a constitution, leadership positions, and holding events.
